Overall this is an excellent campsite within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Campsites 1-17 are the best, 18 is okay, 19 is right next to the restrooms so you will be woken up by the parks cleaning crew everyday at 7am, campsites 20 and up are in the middle with #20 being the best of that bunch. There are at least two potable water stations, a dishwashing station, and flushing toilets. The Cataloochee river runs right next to the campground and it is gorgeous. Noteworthy, the drive in is narrow, gravel, and offers no protection in the form of guardrails. There is no dependable cellular service in the valley.
Small but nice campground with the river running past. We enjoyed it even though our neighbor both nights insisted on using their obnoxious Generator all day and smoking like a chimney. Why not stay at a campground where loud doesn't disrupt everyone? Why drive 5mi on a dirt road to a quiet secluded area and pollute it with noise, gas fumes and cigarette stink/trash? There should be a no smoking and no generator rule here.
Lovely. Worth the crazy drive up there. If you aren't used to mountain travel. Be careful!
Great place to escape the more crowded parts of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Saw lots of elk, they even came to the campground. If you are into hiking I would recommend the hike up to Mt. Sterling.
Great facility! No cell signal so everyone gets to enjoy camping rather than SM.
Beautiful valley with lots of wildlife and trail systems.
A lot of urbanites come here. So expect to see people struggle to set up a tent and attempt to set whole logs that are soaking wet on fire with a bic lighter!
Cataloochee Campground is a diamond in the rough! The camp ground keeper was very welcoming and knowledgeable, offered suggests of things to do with our family. This small campground was easy to navigate, had clean restrooms and had a lots of friendly offerings on how to stay safe while observing the local elk. We will definitely be back!
Nice place. Lots of campers and kids and dogs. Very wet. Rained the whole time. Fire ring with grill. Tent pad. Some spots has decent distance between, then some are like bunk beds. Bathrooms have flush toilet and sink.
Lovely place to camp, very chill, low-key spot. Bathrooms were clean and functional.
